New Head of Research and Education at GreenLab

Unlocking the full potential of industrial clusters

Lucia Mortensen will take on the role of Head of Research and Education at GreenLab starting February 1st. With a strong academic background in industrial symbioses and sector coupling, she will strengthen the collaboration between research and industry within the industrial park, ensuring that symbiosis opportunities are fully leveraged.

On February 1st, Lucia Mortensen will join GreenLab as the new Head of Research and Education. This is not her first encounter with Skive—since 2022, she has been actively involved in GreenLab’s research collaborations as a postdoc at Aalborg University, focusing her research on the development of green industrial parks. This has provided her with a deep understanding of the value of partnerships between universities and industry, which she will now apply in her new role at GreenLab.

“GreenLab is a unique hub for research, innovation, and business, where interdisciplinary collaboration leads to concrete solutions for complex challenges. There is tremendous innovation potential in these partnerships,” says Lucia Mortensen.

“I am committed to strengthening the link between research and practice, as I firmly believe this creates the best opportunities for the development of industrial clusters. In doing so, it also reinforces GreenLab’s position as a frontrunner in innovative research, the green transition, and sustainable business development.”

International background and broad experience
Lucia Mortensen has roots in Moldova and has lived in Denmark since 2006. She holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Planning and Sustainability from Aalborg University and later earned an industrial PhD through a collaboration between Aalborg University and Port of Aalborg.

Most recently, she worked as a Senior Sustainability Consultant, facilitating cross-sector collaborations and developing strategies for sustainable business development.
She has extensive experience working with EU-funded projects and international research initiatives and was a co-founder of the Danish Symbiosis Network (SND) alongside organizations such as Kalundborg Symbiosis. GreenLab is also a key partner here.

Ambitious partnership goals
In her new role, Lucia looks forward to further strengthening the bridge between industry and research by establishing new partnerships and developing relevant educational initiatives that benefit both academia and practice.

“GreenLab is a powerhouse for mission-driven innovation and cross-sector collaboration, and I am excited to explore the many partnership opportunities that can accelerate sustainable development across industries and sectors,” she says.

Her ambitions also include attracting more international research projects and positioning GreenLab as a global role model for sustainable industrial clusters.
